Genki Rockets - Heavenly Star

A japanese band that came to my attention mainly cause of the great puzzle game Lumines 2. Tetsuya Mizuguchi the creator Lumines and fine legacy of games from the Sega glory days co-wrote and directed the music video. He also included the song in Lumines 2.

Genki Rockets are about to release a new single soon so here's a taste. A great bubble gum pop classic!

Greatest Hip Hop Track.. ever?

When you have a line "I'm never fake and I'm never phoney, I've got more flava than a packet of macaroni!".. yer pretty close to have the most awesome hip hop track ever!!

The music video though is not even in the top 10,000 clips.. shame..

Classic Songs : Sabotage!

Sabotage was the lead single to the fantastic album "Ill Communication", ending the great run the Beastie Boys had with album releases (take a look at the 4 year gaps after this album for their subsequent 2 albums). It's a pretty awesome song and then I saw the video (Spike Jonze) I laughed! Especially if you're familiar with crappy cop shows.

And the sik thing is.. THIS IS ON GUITAR HERO 3!! WOOHOO

Tell Me Do You Miss Me

It's very rare you get to say goodbye to something that you meant so much too you when you were young and even rarer for that thing to say goodbye to you. Which is why for all you Luna fans this is a great DVD for you to pick up as it chronicles the last six months of Luna as they go on they're last tour of the world. Starting from Japan, the US, to Europe and then back to US as they play their last show in NYC.

I probably have this discussion with Loki a fair bit about which bands we would love to have been part of and definitely Luna is in the top three (along with Mojave3 and Teenage Fanclub). There was so much to love about their music, from the laconic and deadpan delivery of Dean Wareham, the obtuse and surreal lyrics combine with the really beautiful and melancholy soundscapes.. Ahh! What memories!! Thank you Luna for the great music over these past few years!

Favourite Album : Penthouse
Favourite Tracks : Malibu Love Nest, California (All the Way), Lost in Space

EMO Songs : Meatloaf

Meatloaf and I'd Do Anything for Love (but I won't do that) rules! And what a video clip! ML as some deformed fat goblin, his girlfriend taking a seduction bath and some bizarre lesbo scene and then a glorious finale as the GF and ML duet into some poweful emotive lyrics!! All the ingredients for great EMO rock!

Though I always wondered what ML wouldn't do.. you have to listen to the song right to the end.. it's quite devastating man

MLTR

A tribute to MLTR and their dominance of the South East Asian ROCK market. We can only hope that one day, MLTR will make it on to Guitar Hero X (the Asian Factor) so that the new generations to come too can be in awe of their sik skillz and their sik hair.

Classic Songs : Drowners

When I first saw the music video for this song the Drowners, the first single by Suede I didn't know what the hell to think. That Brett.. POUNCE! (Think Withnail and I). Before Brett became all fked up by drugs and depression he was kinda.. sexy! haha! A bit like when Bugs Bunny dresses up like a girl!

Anyways its a brilliant song (probably my favourite) and after all these years it's one of the few Britpop songs I can listen to without vomiting blood.

And yes after all these years I can finally say it.. Brett was kinda cute hahaha

Classic Songs : Lazyitis

So what's so great about this song?

1. It's my favourite Happy Mondays song! Before it got remixed into some crappy dance track
2. Great name!
3. Neat video of dudes playing football in a prison yard in the rain
4. Shaun Ryder is our modern day Shakespeare (KENDUCKY!)
5. They blatantly steal from the Beatles (can you guess which songs they are)

But the main reason why I love this song so much

6. It's the greatest duet of all time! Between some drunken scouser with an old yodelling country singer!!
