Classic Songs : Sabotage!

Sabotage was the lead single to the fantastic album "Ill Communication", ending the great run the Beastie Boys had with album releases (take a look at the 4 year gaps after this album for their subsequent 2 albums). It's a pretty awesome song and then I saw the video (Spike Jonze) I laughed! Especially if you're familiar with crappy cop shows.

And the sik thing is.. THIS IS ON GUITAR HERO 3!! WOOHOO

29 May 2007

hello.. again

For all you apple buffs.. the video when Jobsey first announced the Bondi Blue (Australia! hooray!) imac!

I guess if you ignore how lowly specc'ed this imac is compared to now (33k modem!! 4gb hard drive!) its actually a pretty interesting video in a few ways..

1. Jobsey is wearing a suit! And he has more hair!
2. Jobsey is still a master talker (though he hasn't incorporated BOOM into his vocabulary)
3. The imac was originally made for education and internet purposes!
4. Even though so many years have past PC desktops still look fking terrible and ugly

Here's the video for the imac G4. Personally I rank this as Apple's tour de force in terms of it's hardware design (along with the cube). The presentation is actually pretty interesting too as Jobsey makes comments about why they couldn't make the imac G5 (yet) when he pretends to cut the imac G3 in half (which is basically the imac G5). I'm not explaining myself properly. Watch the video instead hahaha

The introduction of the imac G5 isn't all that interesting as Jobsey doesn't introduce it (he was in hospital) but here it is anyways

In all cases though the audience oohs and aahs all three products and all 3 products are the "Greatest thing Apple has made!"

My Favourite Noodle Dish (Kohmen Zenbunose)

Learn about my favourite noodle dish, and how to get it.

Go to the Kohmen ramen bar in Shinjuku (just in the Kabuki-cho area). There are other Kohmen ramen bars in Tokyo, but I haven't tried them yet.

Here is the Google Map

Order this dish off the menu (Kohmen Zenbunose - Kohmen means soya, Zenbunose means with all the toppings). I order by pointing to the picture. At AU$10 it's cheap enough to eat for every meal of the day.

The guys behind the bar get busy...

You get this.

Select ingredients from the plate on the left and drown them in the soya noodle soup on the right. Yeeeeeaaaaah.

Noodle soup close-up. Look at the fatty tasty soup.

Close-up of the ingredients. Egg with the yolk not completely cooked - so it goes gooey in the soup. Freshly barbequed juicy pork. spring onion. Dark stewed pork chunk. bamboo shoots. japanese leeks. seaweed crunch. and these amazingly stinky fried garlic chips.

Eat your way to heaven. You might get there faster with all the fatty goodness clogging your ateries!

Squilla, Mantis Shrimp, Lai Liu Haar

I'd been interested in eating these for over one year (saw them on T.V.), and finally got a chance in Ipoh.

In Cantonese "Lai Liu Haar" means "Pissing Prawn". They're longer than normal prawns, and they squirt some sort of liquid when you lift them out of the water. They also don't have the expected pincer claws... instead they have articulating arm jaws like the insect "Mantis", hence the name.

Here they are on death row...

Here they are on my plate...

They're very big, and reasonably tasty. More like a lobster than a prawn.
I found their third name "Squilla" on the web, and their wikipedia entry here.
They sound pretty intense:
...strike by rapidly unfolding and swinging their raptorial claws at the prey, and are capable of inflicting serious damage on victims significantly greater in size than themselves. In smashers, these two weapons are employed with blinding quickness, with an acceleration of 10,400 g and speeds of 23 m/s from a standing start. Because they strike so rapidly, they generate cavitation bubbles between the appendage and the striking surface. The collapse of these cavitation bubbles produce measurable forces on their prey in addition to the instantaneous forces of 1,500 N that are caused by the impact of the appendage against the striking surface, which means that the prey is hit twice by a single strike; first by the claw and then by the even bigger force from the collapsing cavitation bubbles that immediately follows. ...

Here's a Lai Liu Haar bashing the shit out of a crab. You can see it crack the crab's claw near the end.

These things are the Spartans of the sea.

Zerglings!!

Wow first the Halo3 beta hits and now Blizzard announce Starcraft 2 in arguably its spiritual home South Korea!!!

By the time you read this there's probably heaps of sites showing gameplay footage and the most awesome trailer but check out this one. I think its probably the best version. Sure its a handy cam just pointing at a big video screen and the quality isn't that brilliant (make sure to download the official trailer HERE) but man.. hearing the Koreans go fking nuts at the end is the best! MAN even I got excited and I've only played Starcraft a handful of times!!!

Milkman's live blog of the Korean conference is very funny reading too check it out here especially his comments about Lee Hyori!

UPDATE : Though Blizzard have always been good with this.. STARCRAFT 2 RELEASE ON PC AND MAC!!!! WOOHOO!!!

Tell Me Do You Miss Me

It's very rare you get to say goodbye to something that you meant so much too you when you were young and even rarer for that thing to say goodbye to you. Which is why for all you Luna fans this is a great DVD for you to pick up as it chronicles the last six months of Luna as they go on they're last tour of the world. Starting from Japan, the US, to Europe and then back to US as they play their last show in NYC.

I probably have this discussion with Loki a fair bit about which bands we would love to have been part of and definitely Luna is in the top three (along with Mojave3 and Teenage Fanclub). There was so much to love about their music, from the laconic and deadpan delivery of Dean Wareham, the obtuse and surreal lyrics combine with the really beautiful and melancholy soundscapes.. Ahh! What memories!! Thank you Luna for the great music over these past few years!

Ipoh Nga Choi

I'm back from holiday. Spent 9 days in Ipoh.

Ipoh isn't that exciting for tourist sights. I like to call Ipoh the "Geelong of Asia". But there is some nice food to eat.

Ipoh Dau Gheh (Nga Choi/Beanshoots).

Ipoh is a limestone area with a lot of caves and hills similar to the Guilin area of China. Local theory has it that the limestone water produces a special beanshoot described by the Malaysians as "short short fat fat one".

Anyway, the Ngah choi is short strong and juicy. It is awesome to eat. This dish at the local canning garden food stall "Kam Hor" was cooked with soy and sprinkled with spicy salt. This made eating it like eating steak. I could've eaten this on my own, but I had to share.

Here's a video of us buying some more Nga Choi from the Ipoh market. This old lady had huge barrels full of the stuff. Dubious hygiene with handling money and fresh vegetables, but it's damn tasty.

Hello Uncles! Milhouse here!

Hello Milhouse here! Hello to the uncles of rice300, Jobsey has said very nice things about you! What did I do today?

I'm quite excited about uncle Graham getting a 360! It will be fun to be able to play with him online! I remember him on WoW he was very nice but a bit forgetful about things. Oh well I'm forgetful too but I have bits of stuffing in my brain.

I am also happy to see uncle Jinnah buying the wii. The wii is my favourite but Jobsey doesn't really play it much for some reason. I have lots of fun making Mii's!

Jobsey told me that uncle Loki wanted to shoot me with a big gun. Hee hee uncle Loki is so funny!

And uncle Laurence said he wanted to play tennis with me! I am practising hard!!!

Do you like my jumper? It is my favourite!

Toodles!

Classic foto of HK soccer greats

Dear all,

Remember these faces? Guys who are in love with soccer and have been in HK for seven years.. they must know these two legends. On the right, it is mister LEE KIN WO, the best wingers of our age. His legendary status was solidified with the news that shocked the football world. In a friendly match between HK and Macau, our legendary no.11 never before get booked for two yellow before in a match, got a straight red from the Macaunese referee. To no suprises, he confronted the ref, sweared at him and was asking to settle it outside the court. The ref, feeling no respect from the no.11 from the process, decided to do it the macau way and ran straight into the player and delivered a right hand hook that even Ali the great would be proud of. This was captured on TV prompting FIFA to ban the Ref from touching football (hez not allowed even to go to soccer stadiums all over the world) for life. Mr. Lee got away with a year ban. This piece of news was broadcasted even in SBS during my time in Australia.

On the left, it is Aui Wa Leung. Prolific goal scorer who capped for HK many times and was in the top of the FIFA strikers accruacy ranking for almost a year (forget which year but anyway ) because of his only shot (which means one shot) only goal (one goal and then got sidelined for the year) 100% accuracy record. Calmness in front of goal and reading in front of goal is another two attributes that makes him a legend because there were numerous situation that when he has his back against the goal with only the keeper to beat and he was "so" calm and his reading "so" accurate and deadly that he decided NOT to take the open goal and instead swiftly one touch pass it back out to the midfields.

Twat of the Week - Creative

I've been waiting a long time for this blog entry.. KARMA BABY!! It's very rare for things to pan out as this issue did so let's all rejoice for today's twat of the week - SIM WONG HOO!!

In 2004
Creative CEO Sim Wong Hoo is quoting by the Reuters news agency as saying, "the MP3 war has started and I am the one who has declared war. I'm planning to spend some serious money - I intend to outmarket everyone."

On May 02, 2007 (a mere 3 years)
Creative said today that job cuts will help operating expenses fall 20 percent by the end of September. The company is seeking to boost sales and profit by supplying Cupertino, California-based Apple with iPod accessories and providing outsourced production

Classic Food Combinations : Bacon and Egg

This segment is in recognition of combining at least 2 food items that utterly transforms the individual parts to make a totally magnificent marriage of gastronomic heaven. Since most of us on this site love our food I hope you guys contribute your well-loved food combinations! To kick start.. BACON AND EGG!

I'll let Trappa describe his love for bacon and egg

It’s sik cos u get the combo of textures and flavours – crispy bacon, salt explosion and smokey pork taste, soft melt in the mouth section of fat, hopefully a crackly sliver of rind, springy egg white, dome of the yolk pierces to yield soft warm buttery contents, u get to mix them up like an artiste! Selecting a bit of bacon, a bit of egg to create a perfect blend on the tongue! And if yer a fking wanker u could foam it all up and serve it to toffs

Twat of the Week : El Bulli

This blog entry is sure to illict some controversy as Jobsey/Wozza take their first aim at rice300 at a much lauded and highly praised restaurant EL BULLI! It's had the title of best restaurant in the world for a number of years. And it probably deserves it. But to hell with that as the inauragual rant of Jobsey/Wozza begins!

Official Praise #1

People travel from around the world to dine at El Bulli, his restaurant in Roses, Spain, where diners experience the new and exciting food that is at the forefront of the industry.

The foam (espuma) is a signature trick of Adris. Using nitrous oxide in canisters, Adri pours in liquids and gelatine and pours out a variety of flavours, from orange to foie gras.

Response JW

U ever heard abt the worlds best restaurant in spain where the stupid motherfking head chef serves up versions of dishes that incorporate foam? Like he foams up everything and makes it look great and arty and fking miniscule – what a fking joke man, cuisine like that makes me utterly sick

Official Praise #2

When El Bulli is shut, Adri and his team decamp to Barcelona, where he has a laboratory. Those six months are spent deconstructing food to what sometimes seems like its atomic elements, and then reassembling in a very different way.

Response JW

They take a scientific approach to cooking! NASA takes a scientific approach to cooking too man – freeze dried powdered sh*t!

Official Praise #3

It is almost impossible to get a table at El Bulli. It is open only from April to October and has fewer than 50 covers. It opens only for dinner, and has only one sitting.

Response JW

Its a good opportunity for people to work out who are the world's biggest fking twats by who gets a table.. I have more respect for maccas man… can u imagine if maccas only opened for 6 months in the year?

Geezer of the Week : Hironobu Sakaguchi

I must admit the recent interviews I've read with Sakaguchi cracks me up man. He's not afraid to just spill his guts. Here's why he's geezer of the week!

1. He came up with Final Fantasy. That's pretty sik
2. He's got an awesome moustache
3. But he's said some damn funny stuff. Here's some choice quotes

Well first, Xbox is a loser in Japan. (Laughter). So, I didn't want to make games for a system that did not sell.

Maybe it’ll take ten years (laughs) (IN REFERENCE TO HOW LONG IT'LL TAKE TO MAKE BLUE DRAGON A SUCCESSFUL FRANCHISE)

And we fixed some bugs. [laughs] (IN REFERENCE TO CHANGES TO ENGLISH VERSION OF BLUE DRAGON)

If you say "jump in" in Japanese. Jump in. It's not so cool in Japanese. (XBOX 360 MARKETING CAMPAIGN IN JAPAN)

"Do, do, do" is not so good either. [laughs] (THE NEXT XBOX 360 MARKETING SLOGAN IN JAPAN)

I'm willing to break them into pieces, crush them at my feet. [laughs] (HIS VIEWS OF WHAT HE WOULD DO IF FINAL FANTASY CAME TO XBOX 360)

The characters are bad. They look like dolls. (HIS TAKE ON WII SPORTS)

I'm not interested in the PlayStation 3. The machine's architecture is tricky, and I don't like Kutaragi (BWAHAHAHAHA)
